My Countdown to Adam Diet was actually quite successful! I literally did not eat or drink anything I wasn't supposed to...which is tough, as everyone knows. Diets aren't easy. I was able to reach my goal weight of 125-actually, I got down to 124.6! And I've maintained that since May1. It's been a couple months, so that's great.
Since I've been back in Texas, things have been hectic, so let's just say it's been a struggle lately to get to the gym. This is due to work schedule, slight sickness from exhaustion, Summer 2 starting at school, etc. I've, luckily, been able to maintain that weight of 124-125. This is typical of my summer-self, however. I eat less in the summer due to the heat and a busier and more active schedule.
I had a goal to run a marathon in the fall. I've changed this to a half. Sometimes, I get ahead of myself and make big proclamations that I can't reach. Rather than give up altogether after a bummer of a 10k (time-wise) I ran in June, I decided I'd work towards an easier but still substantial goal. 13.1 is nothing to bat an eye at. And recent events have made me question WHY I thought it was a good idea to start training for a big race IN THE SUMMER when I LIVE IN TEXAS.
Now that we're caught up, I'll get to today's details. I still want to drop another 7 to 10 lbs. I feel it would get me a little extra edge in running and it would be a great place to be. Not too thin (at 5'1, with a medium to small frame, 117 lbs. is a good goal.) and hopefully the END of my dieting days. By dieting, I mean having healthy habits finally stick. I have gotten where I am from a journey that started at age 20 or so. The habits I have now are from difficult changes I made back then. It takes a bajillion tries to make it a routine habit, and I'm hoping that this bajillionth try to combat sugar will finally work.
Sugar is my complete and utter destroyer. I plan to conquer it.
So, it's back on the Eat Clean: Recharged Diet for another chunk of weight to come flying off. I vow to make more recipes from the Clean Eating magazines I already own rather than wing it and make gross quick meals in a pinch. In addition, I'm going to do the last two months of Jamie Eason's Live Fit Trainer to really tone up. I will continue to run to train for the races I have coming up in August (8k) September (10k) and October (15k), but focus mostly on what I truly love doing more- which is weight lifting! I love running for certain reasons, but muscle building is so addictive.
On one last really important note: I just want to say that losing weight ISN'T EASY, nor should it be. So many people get discouraged, I think, because they don't classify themselves as athletes or gym-goers. When a diet or exercise routine doesn't work, it's tempting to give up and admit failure. I consider myself an athlete now, though I never played a sport and have never been in shape until recent years. You don't need to be the best or fastest or strongest- but if you keep at it and keep trying, even if you mess up on the diet at first, you gain a pound instead of lose one at your next Weight Watchers meeting, you're taking the steps. We read success stories online and in magazines where people drop 60 lbs in 6 months and compete in bikini competitions. Those things are inspirational, sure, but those things get printed because it's Exceptional. I only wanted to lose about 15 lbs. when I started out. It took me years of trying and preparing to lose it to get there. But now, I know how to keep it off, because I have practiced and it takes a lot longer than 6 months even to form new habits. Don't give up, don't talk yourself out of things (I'm notorious for doing this). You WILL get there, because that thought has now been attached to your brain. Think like the person you want to be, and you'll have no choice but to do the things that person would do, until you realize that person IS you.
Be prepared for more frequent updates as I continue to meet my goals!
